What is HSA and FSA? Everything You Need to Know.
What is FSA and HSA?
Flex Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) are personal accounts that are used for medical expenses insurance may not cover directly. They are pre-tax dollars placed into an account by either an individual or their employer to help cover out of pocket medical expenses.
What is the Difference Between HSA and FSA?
The main difference between an HSA and an FSA is that a Health Savings Account is typically provided to an individual by their employer if they have a high deductible health plan, with funds able to roll over from year to year.
A Flex Spending Account is also generally provided by an employer but the full balance does not roll over from year to year and typically has a lower limit for the total amount of funds that can be placed in the account per year.
Generally speaking, an individual with an HSA is able to keep the funds once they move on from a job, whereas an individual with an FSA cannot.
Both an FSA and HSA cover the same types of products and services.
